Liquid Waste Program
The Lassen County Liquid Waste Program is responsible for protecting public health and the environment from the potential adverse health and environmental impacts associated with new and repair on-site individual sewage disposal systems.
We carry out this responsibility by investigating complaints, reviewing test data, design proposals and inspecting the construction and installation of all septic systems to ensure conformance with applicable codes and ordinances.
Wastewater from a septic system may contain many types of contaminants such as nitrates, harmful bacteria, chemicals, and viruses. If a septic system is failing, designed incorrectly or is not constructed in conformance with applicable ordinances, codes and construction practices, contaminants may enter the groundwater supply and/or result in surface sewage causing direct exposure to people and animals.
