Immunization Assistance Program (IAP)
Vaccines for Children (VFC) benefits are available for children younger than 19 years of age without health insurance, enrolled in a Medicaid program, or are eligible for Medicaid. Children who are American Indian or Alaska Native qualify for vaccines through the VFC Program as defined by the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (25 U.S.C. 1603). VFC eligible patient will receive free vaccines, the California VFC Program is administered by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Immunization Branch and has enrolled more than 4,000 public and private provider sites since its inception in 1995.
Vaccines for Adults (VFA) are adults 19 years of age and older, for uninsured/underinsured, eligible adults health insurance doesn’t cover vaccines, or has Medicare. An administration fee of up to $26.03 per vaccine dose may be charged. If the individual is unable to pay the administration fee, the vaccine dose will not be denied, and the administration fee will be waived. The California Vaccines for Adults (VFA) program was created by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to increase adult vaccination rates and decrease disparities in immunization coverage.
California school and childcare vaccine requirements remain the same despite recent federal changes. All vaccines recommended by CDPH, including those required for child care or school, continue to be covered by insurance in California.
